Trout Very Limited

After receiving the Spring 2009 issue of Idaho Trout Unlimited I canceled my membership. The following letter to the state and national offices explains why.

Whomsoever: The hijacking of Idaho Trout Unlimited by the Sun Valley President and Idaho Chair Carmen Northen, as vulgarly displayed in the Spring 2009 issue (which those of us who don’t own red plaid pants call the Northen Family Photos issue) is contrary to everything we thought your organization stood for in Idaho. Please cancel my membership.

Any angler in the country will tell you that the greatest barrier to the quality fishing experience, which is the ultimate goal of your organization, is the commercial fisherman (guide).Commercial fishermen destroy fisheries in numbers Anaconda Mining never thought possible.

Cecil Andrus got guides banned from the South Fork of the Boise.

Jack Hemingway reportedly told friends guide pressure forced him to leave his own home waters.

Mz. Northen gushes over the participation of Silver Creek Outfitters owner Terry Ring at Sun Valley TU events.  According to Idaho Outfitter & Guide Board records Ring employs 45% of the 100+ guides licensed to assault the public on Central Idaho waters. No one thinks that Rings involvement in Carmens stories is anything less than self serving. The money driven guides of him and the other four outfitters own Copper Basin. They have pressured the public off fishing waters from Richfield to Stanley, Fairfield to Mackay. He should make donations to the Hayspur Hatchery as guides regularly contact them and the Lost River Hatchery to find out where and when they will be dumping the fish for the day.

Mz. Northen is one of the only 18 guides Ring admits to on his stores webpage . She can make from $6000-$9000 month in tips and wages as a guide for Ring.

Mz’s Northen and Trotter obviously didn’t feel the inclusion of TU members in the Mackay area would lend the right ambience to their activities. Numerous calls to both women about what TU was doing on our waters went unanswered.

Is Idaho TU the propaganda arm for the largest commercial fishing cartel in Idaho? If not Mz. Northen needs to follow my lead and remove herself from the ranks of TU. Maybe then ITU magazine can prioritize the $170,000 project taking place in Leadore. Instead of who catered lunch.
